Sorting out the confusion regarding Medicare, Medi-Cal and Medicaid is very much needed these days. Of course it’s much too complicated to explain in a few words and in fact I don’t have the complete expertise to do so. However after almost twenty years of helping seniors and being a Certified Licensed Administrator I pretty much know what flies and what doesn’t. So let’s give it a try, Medicare is only for short term stays in a facility after an illness or surgery, almost always limited to ninety days or less. Medi-Cal is for individuals with VERY limited assets and income and in most cases you must have a skilled nursing home need such as injections, catheter and stoma care etc. Medicaid is the same as Medi-Cal it’s the term used in all states except California. Again please be aware that exceptions always apply to what I just said so one should always consult an expert or make an application. Call California Registry anytime and we will head you in the right direction.
